Guru Woo Woo
Guru Woo Woo and Yogi Bhajan started Kundalini yoga in a Melrose Avenue bookstore. Kundalini got so big they moved it into a Robertson Boulevard designer studio. Now Guru Woo Woo is even on Facebook live from Yoga West. In the City of Los Angeles, all the best designers are located on Robertson Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Woo Woo!
Save your money, get all of your yoga for free online. It’s all there. You just have to look for it.
Golden Bridge Yoga
In 2013 when I was living in Larchmont and Michael Filipowich advised me to take Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training, he meant Golden Bridge on Highland, not Yoga West on Robertson. Golden Bridge closed in December of 2014 while I was busy having a heart attack in Philadelphia.
In October 2017, when it was my time to take KYTT, I chose Yoga West, without really being aware of the distinction between Yoga West and Golden Bridge. I probably would have chosen Yoga West no matter what, just because it is the much ballyhooed “Home of Yogi Bhajan”.
Yoga West is the home of Yogi Bhajan and Guru Woo Woo Singh. This facility is cold, dark and smelly. The air needs to be ventilated for health and safety. The floor needs to be thoroughly and decisively wet mopped and sterilized. The quality of instruction is poor. There is no hands on correcting by Kundalini yoga teachers. They just sit up there in guru designer white. I quit.
I will be practicing kundalini yoga in the sunlight coming through the balcony sliding glass doors of this huge cheap motel suite I just found in the aerospace outback of El Segundo.
In January 2018, I became aware of another Kundalini yoga enterprise near me, the RA MA Institute in Venice, CA. Their web page hits you right up front with the Aquarian Age no-patriarchy dogma. Knowing that I have this and other yoga options, I decided to cancel my Yoga West monthly unlimited auto-renew account and emailed Yoga West notice.
But what would be the point in paying another Kundalini yoga studio to regurgitate fake religion back to me? There is no value in taking yoga at a kundalini studio because they do not correct students technical details. If you sit in a Kundalini class the teachers assume you are worshiping them as a guru. I started my practice in high school with a paperback book and no yoga teacher and I’ll end up my practice in my golden years online with no yoga teacher. I have sadhana.
Sādhana (Sanskrit साधन; Tibetan: སྒྲུབ་ཐབས་, THL: druptap; Chinese: 修行), literally “a means of accomplishing something”, is a generic term coming from the yogic tradition and it refers to any spiritual exercise that is aimed at progressing the sādhaka towards the very ultimate expression of his or her life in this reality. It includes a variety of disciplines in Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh traditions that are followed in order to achieve various spiritual or ritual objectives.
Sādhana can also refer to a tantric liturgy or liturgical manual, that is, the instructions to carry out a certain practice.
