For the past five years I have been working hard to open up and lengthen all of my toes. I spend a lot of time focusing on stretching and flexing my feet, toes, and legs as part of my total workout. Eastern traditions and yoga in particular place much importance on the foundational aspect of the feet. Five years ago I saw a male yoga teacher stretch and radiate his toes and I decided right then and there that I wanted to do that too. Monkey see, monkey do.
Feet Are Foundational
While walking through the desert this weekend I flexed my feet fully and rose up on my heels and toes with a bounce in my step. Walking around the Moorten Botanical Garden at 1701 S. Palm Canyon Drive my calves, feet and toes were working and flexing as hard as my thighs. Inhaling and exhaling fully as I enjoy the good vibrations in my feet as they open up bigger and bigger. Strong healthy feet are very important to me and so mine always get a good workout. My feet are part of everything I do.
Welcome to the Walking Week
This was the best Christmas and New Year’s of my life, and I went to bed early and blissfully alone every night. Getting old means you finally get to choose your own family. If I could have a nice gym and good Kundalini yoga here in Palm Springs, I wouldn’t have to deal with the high cost of living in my beloved City of the Angels. I love LA and am even excited about the two hour drive home today, but LA is just so damn expensive now. Because of the lofty housing costs in LA, the desert is getting crowded with rental refugees like myself. But the desert is no place to live full time. Winter holidays and weekends in the clean, clear desert air are exceptional and often memorable, but then it’s time to pack up and head back home to the city for the working week.
