What is Core Energetics?
The following is excerpted and adapted from the Institute of Core Energetics:
Unifying Body Psychotherapy with Spiritual Development
Dr. Wilhelm Reich is one of the most controversial figures in psychotherapy and is considered the father of the sexual revolution. Reich called the life force orgone energy. Reich claimed that individual’s ability to achieve fully evolved orgasm was directly related to the individual’s ability to engage life. Reich ran afoul of the FDA and died in prison at age 60 because of his claims that his orgone energy accumulators cured cancer.
Dr. Reich mentored the late John Pierrakos, MD. who worked with Bioenergetics co-founder Alexander Lowen. Pierrakos developed Core Energetics in New York during the me decade of the seventies.
In the 1990’s Ann Bradney and Dr. Paul McDuff began teaching Radical Aliveness Core Energetics (RACE) in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. Dr. McDuff is currently facilitating nude Core Energetics workshops in Palm Springs. Core Energetics bridges body psychotherapy and spiritual development for the enlightened sexual adventurer.
The Body is the MInd
Core Energetics develops our consciousness as to how we block our mental and physical energy. By deploying our infantile ego we recreate social survival defense patterns adapted in childhood. We are adults behaving like children. By becoming aware of our egoic pain we free ourselves from the mental constructs that keep us limited and disempowered. The core process helps us see how our world view is to a large extent a function of many of these blocked energy patterns. By learning to create new patterns instead of continually recreating similar situations and relational dynamics we learn to grow and evolve. Core energetics markets itself to people who realize that living old patterns can create relationships that leave us frustrated.
Emotional Responses Are Not Just Psychological
Increasing our conscious awareness level alone is often not enough. We also need to mobilize our physical energy (life-force) differently in order to make lasting changes in both our inner world and our outer experience of life. Body release is critical in changing our experience of embodiment because our defenses, belief systems, coping mechanisms, and typical emotional responses are not just psychological. Our defense mechanism are also somatic and powerfully anchored in the physical body. Targeted body techniques open consciousness to suppressed feelings and engage the energy system in ways that allow us to go beyond our “comfort” zone. Core Energetics releases blocked sources of energy that can then be integrated and grounded.
Core Energetics Opens the Body Mind & Soul to Deeper Spirituality
Further opening our connection to God is the real goal of Core energetics. We open up to create an expanded sense of who we are. We become able to embrace our life and open to unknown spiritual and inner resources. By returning to baseline consciousness we can more freely express our divine creativity and discover our authentic sexuality. The social benefits are that we deepen our connection with others.
By connecting our meditation practice to our body meditation practice with healing modalities such as Core Energetics we become our own therapists. Core Energetics has helped me to integrate my spirituality into healing my anxiety, depression, personality issues, and sexual aberrations.
Core Energetics synergises body, mind and soul into spiritual integration in order to go far beyond mere temporary acute symptom improvement. Opening up to God consciousness can work at the very deepest levels of being. Spiritual energy healing can transform the fixed patterns of behavior that have been structured in our character.
Opening our souls to God is life-changing work that can take a life-time to complete. Authentic spirituality opens us to the fullness of our life-force. Really only God can open our hearts and ground us in the divine strength and integrity of who we really are. The divine infinite energy embodied by our life-force supports us in bringing forth our unique gifts as we engage more fully and responsibly with the world around us.
