When I was nineteen years old a cocaine dealer named Mark Mitchell turned me on to a dog-eared paperback copy of “Zen Flesh, Zen Bones,” by Paul Rep. The book is a collection of stories that really opened up my mind. Zen practice involves rigorous meditation. Zen means direct pointing and also the mist that touches but does not get you wet. Zen is a really advanced spiritual practice that I really prepared me for an advanced spiritual practice.
Having Zen and Transcendental Meditation as the foundation of my spiritual life has led me to a profound new relationship with my Catholic practice. My nude kundalini yoga and meditation has become the Body of Christ. Sometimes I wonder if I am having an authentic mystical experience of the Body of Christ or if I am just creating what I am thinking about. My Masonic friends are all into playing fantasy football and baseball. If my experience of the Body of Christ is a fantasy then I would rather have my fantasy than the dominant paradigm fantasy.
Creating Christ Consciousness
Ten years ago I had a experience of Christ appearing to me over Pt. Dume in Malibu. I told the Christian girls I was hanging out with about perceiving the Christ communicating to me that he was speaking directly to me with the words he said in the New Testament. A blond angel with burn scars on her throat and decollete asked me: “Yeah but were you thinking about it before it happened?” Yes I was thinking about the Christ before he appeared to me. I would rather be thinking about God and have visions of God than thinking about football and having visions of football players. I am one of the few men who has sex with other men that does not watch football. I am one of the few men I know who is not into watching sports on TV. I practice yoga and take work-out walks. I practice the zen of direct experience.
