The Culver City Senior Center is open for the free lunch that you have already paid for. You have paid your state and federal income tax and so you have subsidized your free Senior Center lunch. Jewish Family Service L.A. administers this ‘free lunch’ program with government funds and private grants.
So if you are age sixty years on up, come and get your free lunch. Today we are having beef fajita, Spanish brown rice, pinto beans, side salad with Italian dressing, pineapple & mango cup and the ubiquitous carton of milk. Water is optional so ask your volunteer server. Some of the servers are volunteers who are mentally challenged and some are paid employees who supervise them. I promise to take more phots the wonderful people for a future blog. The daily lunch menu is online. Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. If you are younger than sixty the cost is $3.00. So come and get it while it’s hot!
The Culver City Senior Center is Another Good Reason Why I Relocated to the Westside
The food is okay. The meals are rather small. Often you will be offered second helpings. Eating lunch at the senior center leaves me wanting dinner early. The small portions don’t really matter because the big benefit is the social gratification. I spend about eight or ten hours a week here because the Culver City Senior Center is a great place to meet new friends. It heals the body, mind & soul to see and be seen. So I hope to see you there!
Sometimes I come for lunch early to read and hang out on the patio
The common areas of my luxury apartment complex are nice, but the patio at the Senior Center is even better. It is much bigger. The landscaping is nicer. The patio at the Culver City Senior Center is very peaceful and inviting. It reminds me to stay in a meditative mind and demonstrate higher consciousness.
Membership and Parking Are Very Reasonable
Because you have worked hard all your life and paid taxes, you have already subsidized your membership fee. The Culver City Senior Center annual membership is only twenty dollars and an additional five dollars per year for parking. In fact, many working people in this busy neighborhood pay the twenty five dollars per year just for the parking. You do not have to be over age sixty to become a paid member. Writing this blog reminds me to take some shots of the parking lot and write a whole blog just about the beautiful parking available at the CCSC.
The Short Story Reading Group Is Where You Will Find Me
Every week we read a short story from either The Art of the Story or The Best American Short Stories. Then we discuss the story in our Short Story Reading Group. We meet every Thursday at 11:00 am. I will see if I can get the group’s permission to photograph them next week.
I PROMISE TO TAKE MORE PHOTOS OF PEOPLE. This website is less than a week old. So I am just now getting my chops together. I have to remember to take more pictures of my friends and acquaintances as I roam around my world. Roam if you want to, roam around the world. It is the photographs of people that really make a blog interesting. By writing these words I will make my self remember this.
The Senior Center Can Help Prevent Dementia
I am the type of person who thrives on lots of alone time. However being part of a regular social setting at the Center breaks me out of my isolation. The Senior Center prevents loneliness. When I am at the CCSC I can feel parts of my brain being activated in a way that nothing else does. I keep my self young by practicing yoga and meditation, writing, and social stimulation at the Culver City Senior Center and the Westside Hope Center.
